To see palm trees galore against a blue sky, walk down into a canyon and enjoy the Palm Canyon Trail in Balboa Park. The entrance is at a wooden boardwalk across the street and slightly uphill from the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. The trail is quite secluded, so come with a friend. It is magical walking down the stairs into the garden. Then you feel like you've been transported to a tropical location. This is the canyon that you see from the high bridge when you walk the western part of El Prado. There are several branches of the trail, and the southernmost one leads to Kate O Sessions Cactus Garden.

Fishtail Palms along the trail.

Tropical palms make you feel like you're in an island paradise.
