Scripps Pier is the most gorgeous spot on the UC San Diego campus! Here a steep hill graced with eucalyptus and pine trees leads down to the coast. The pier juts out of a long beach stained with dark minerals. Residents love to take long walks here. A park with benches and flower beds sits atop the beach. Students decompress here. A solely outdoor coffee shop, Pinpoint Cafe, is nestled among the pines, with two balconies offering amazing views of Scripps Pier. Aaaah...the life of a student. Caroline's Seaside Cafe is located near the park at the base of the pier- enjoy a meal while being shielded from the cold sea air by glass.
You can't walk on the pier.
Just up the hill, check out the Birch Aquarium, which has stunning views from its outdoor terrace where you will find a touch tank, plus two halls of interesting tanks.
You can also drive nine minutes over to trendy Mendocino Farms, a counter-service sandwich place with lovely indoor and outdoor seating. It is located in The Shops at La Jolla Village, where you can also find Whole Foods Market and Nekter Juice Bar.
Scripps Pier is located on the UC San Diego campus, at 8655 Kennel Way, San Diego CA. Parking is difficult. You can sometimes find a spot along the road nearby, such as on El Paseo Grande. Check for "no parking" signs so that you don't end up with a ticket. You could also park at La Jolla Shores Beach Parking in their large, free parking lot and walk up the beach or up El Paseo Grande to the pier.
Pinpoint Cafe also does not have parking. It is a 17 minute walk from La Jolla Shores Beach Parking along El Paseo Grande to Pinpoint Cafe. You sometimes have to circle around a few times to find parking at La Jolla Shores Beach Parking.
