Castro Street is the happening area of Mountain View, the city where the Google headquarters is located! For three blocks, the road is closed to cars, making for a lovely spot to stroll. The road is painted yellow and blue, and little kids can even ride their bikes slowly along. There are lampposts with overflowing flower baskets! And talented street musicians play popular songs. Unfortunately, there are homeless people and the smell of pee is quite pervasive.
You can find food from all corners of the globe, especially Asian cuisine. There is also an excellent American cuisine cafe called Eureka. The cafes have lovely outdoor seating along the street. This is a very popular spot at lunchtime, so come early, like 11am. Ludwig's Beer Garden is a great spot, and the Silicon Valley InterNations group (a meetup for international people) meets there sometimes.
After eating, drive ten minutes to Foster Museum, a wonderful single-artist museum that shows Foster's travels all over the world, and the beautiful paintings and collected items that came about as a result. Our whole family liked this museum best on our last day in Silicon Valley. Four minutes from there, check out the Computer History Museum, with interesting, colorful displays.
There are parking structures all around here. A free parking lot is located at 460 Hope Street.
