If you know someone who works at Meta, they can bring you to tour the campus! It's really fun to see the colorful architecture and cute squares with seating in the sun, and to eat at one of the free cafes. The main pedestrian street, of the MPK (which stands for Menlo ParK) Classic campus, is a lively spot. After you check in and receive your lanyard at one of the lobbies, you enter the main street. There are emojis in the windows, animal sculptures, wooden cabanas to work in, red bridges painted the same color as the Golden Gate Bridge, and best of all, long tables in the sun where everyone eats. You can browse the Meta store, test out the headsets, and buy a little stuffed animal fox with a facebook logo or an instagram coffee cup. Here you can have an eye test done by a machine for free, and plan for your rayban glasses!
There are many cafes to choose from. Breakfast is in a large hall with a buffet, and loud upbeat music, that is a bit much in the morning. Outside there are rows of picnic tables in a big square. More cafes can be found along the main street, with quieter nooks where you can find comfortable seating outside. We liked the burrito place the best, and it seemed cleanest to me since people don't serve themselves. There is also a good buffet-style Indian food cafe, and popular buffet-style BBQ cafe where you can get ribs, corn bread, baked beans, coleslaw, and mac & cheese. For dessert, visit the adorable Sweet Stop, where it's fun to get a tiny slice of something delicious like banana bread topped with cinnamon icing, panna cotta gelatin in a small cup, a cookie, or a miniature chocolate cupcake. You can also get a small scoop of ice cream in a cone.
You can catch a shuttle bus or van to the MPK Bayfront side of campus, which is located on a dry salt marsh. Frank Gehry, who designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, designed the MPK20 building. There is a nine-acre garden on the roof of the MPK20 and MPK21 buildings, and its wonderful to walk under the eucalyptus trees and bottle brush trees, looking out on the expansive view. Foxes even make their home in this rooftop garden! Walk the wide pedestrian bridge to the next building, MPK22, which is very modern with an impressive atrium. Here you can find pop art galore decorating the walls and strung between the different sections of the building. There are coffee corners with free snacks like dried mango.
It was really fun visiting the Meta campus and I wished I had gone again the next day of our vacation! I plan to return soon!
Meta Headquarters is located at 1 Hacker Way! It is in Menlo Park, California, in Silicon Valley.
