Along beautiful Highway 280 near Redwood City is a gorgeous stop you can make, especially in summer when the lavender is blooming: Pulgas Water Temple! Here the water district has created a classical temple surrounded by lavender beds, with a pool lined with Italian cypress trees. The creation is in order to celebrate and showcase the work of the water district, and how they brought water from far away, via the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct in 1932, to serve the town! It is a delight to walk the grounds, taking in the symmetry of the pool, trees, and temple. Photographers come here to take photos shoots of people, and it is a popular selfie spot! Entrance is free, so you can't go wrong! Open weekdays only, 9-5.
Another pretty spot, 5 minutes south, is Filoli Gardens- this one has an admission fee. I plan to visit it soon!
