Atascadero Lake Walk is a gorgeous walk in Autumn (November) when the leaves are yellow and red! It is a popular 1.3 mile loop walk around the perimeter of the lake. The road is slightly raised above the lake, affording lovely views. You can see ducks, shimmering water, and trees of all kinds. There are a few little bridges. You are on a hard-packed dirt sidewalk along Lake View Drive, Santa Rosa Ave, Marchant Way, and Marchant Ave. Part of the walk goes through Atascadero Lake Park, a festive park with a happy feeling like a folk art painting. In Autumn people scoop up huge piles of leaves here and throw them in the air. There are paddle boats in summer. The playground is impressive, with a huge slide and lots of fun rope climbing and stepping stones. There are plenty of benches and picnic tables.
In summer on Saturdays 6:30-8:30pm, there are free concerts at the bandstand.
After, have a brisket and potato empanada (handheld pie) at Bramble Pie Company (closed Mondays) in downtown Atascadero. It is so delicious! This area is a six minute drive north. After, walk a block to City Hall and check out the sculptures and fountains in its gardens.
The parking for the lake walk is located on Lake View Drive where it meets Santa Rosa Ave, at 9184 Lake View Dr. Parking is free.
You can also park at Atascadero Lake Park.
