Avila Valley Barn is a colorful farm with a fruit/veg store, ice cream, u-pick fruit, and cafe. During the Autumn season, it has hay rides, adorable petting zoo, hay maze, toddler hay maze, varied sunflowers, and a pumpkin patch. Throughout the year, It's a happy place to come to pick your own juicy raspberries, olallieberries, apples, corn, and peaches, depending on what's in season. Kids are intrigued to see how the fruit they eat really grows. On weekends, a free hay ride takes you to the rows of u-pick fruit. Late spring is the time to come for berries.
The farm is open to the public from mid-May to December. One of the nicest times to come is October for their pumpkin patch and harvest activities. Huge pumpkins are piled high, making a great backdrop for autumn photos. Tall leafy trees provide shade. Blocks of hay are arranged for kids to jump and play in. A hay maze gives you a reason to spend a few claustrophobic, panicked moments getting lost! There is an easy toddler hay maze too- a sweet idea! Kids like to feed lettuce to the farm animals in little pens (this costs only $3). There are goats, baby goats, sheep (there was a pregnant one when we were there), show chickens with funny puffy feathers on their heads, roosters, donkeys, alpacas, emus, and beautiful cows. You can get an icecream, baked treat, or sandwich at the cafe and eat it at one of the picnic areas savoring the views over Avila Valley with its lush forest-covered hills. There's a fruit store with fresh veggies, honey, and delicious treats like berry cobblers and pies for sale. At the far end of the property are endless rows of sunflowers in varied colors: yellow, orange, red, and black. What a gorgeous sight and delightful place to walk along the rows taking photos! This is a popular destination and on October weekends it's packed with families, so come early.
Take your treats and eat them at Avila Beach where there's even more to do: splash in the water at the shore, walk beside the multi-colored cliffs, play at the pirate playground, and see sharks and jellies at the aquarium. Avila Beach is often sunny when the rest of the coast is fogged in, so it's a great place to visit.
Open every day from May 12 to Dec 24. Until Oct 31, hours are 9-6. After that, hours are 9-5.
Avila Valley Barn is located at 560 Avila Beach Drive, Avila Beach CA 93405, call (805) 595-2810 for recorded updates or (805) 595-2816 to speak to someone at the farm.
From Highway 101, exit at Avila Beach Dr and drive west toward the ocean. After you pass one road on the right, Ontario Rd, the farm is on your right. Pull into the parking lot.

Love this place. Its a seasonal pick-your-own combined with an open air farmer's market kind of thing. Hay rides, domestic animal mini-zoo (you can ask for plant scraps to feed the animals), picnic tables, etc.
They've expanded with an espresso bar/candy counter, and a couple more restrooms. Great family location!

Because they are seasonal, they do have a close-down period. Make sure to visit website or call to make sure you don't visit in the offseason!
