In San Luis Obispo, there are some great places to taste beer, cider, or spirits. They generally have tons of atmosphere and a happy vibe, with sunny outdoor seating, as well as indoor seating with vintage lighting and attractive decor.
I visited Rod and Hammer Rock, formerly called SLO Brew, a whiskey distillery and brewery, owned by an Australian! This is a large property! There is a giant rock as you enter. Drive to the right of it and park. The nicest area is on the far right end of the property. Here you find a cozy room with gorgeous decor, and in the back of it, an outdoor area that is very beautiful! This is the age 21+ bar area of the distillery. Come on a warm night or day so you can sit outside. They do have heaters outside in case it gets cold. Sometimes they serve food on the bar side, but usually not. The other side, to the left of the rock, has a less attractive indoor area with loud music. Here they serve food, counter-service style, and all ages can hang out. There is a nice outdoor area with tons of tables and games for kids. Mon-Fri 3-6pm there is a happy hour with pizza and drinks. This distillery is a short walk from the airport, which is handy if you are waiting for your flight. There is live music, with the price of a ticket, on Friday and Saturday nights in summer. They have a free Whiskey Festival on a Saturday at noon at the end of September, with an outdoor stage and for all ages.
I will add more places as I visit them...
