Islay Park is a lush park with walking paths, spiffy basketball courts, sand volleyball court, and a baseball diamond. Its best feature is its wonderful modern playground with rope climbies galore, a spinner, a bouncy seesaw with a turtle seat, tires to climb, a twisty slide, a spinner, a standing-up seesaw, mommy-and-baby swings, regular swings, and shade canopies. There are cute views of Islay Peak. Kids can ride their tricycles on the winding paths. There are picnic tables in quiet spots on the far end of the park, plus a huge grassy lawn where kids can run free (though it has some holes in it, so careful of your ankles). You can also walk the Islay Park Greenway through a forest behind houses. This shady path can be a three mile walk if you walk all four branches! Watch out for poison oak along the edges of the path in the forest.
A short walk from Islay Park is the Islay Hill Hike, a steep hike with gorgeous views of SLO town, and flowers in spring.
Islay Park is located at the roundabout at Tank Farm Rd and Orcutt Rd. You can park for free in their large parking lot.
