Nathaniel Owings Redwood Grove, Big Sur

If you need to reset from the world, come to Nathaniel Owings Redwood Grove. It is a peaceful spot, with magnificent trees all around you and a bubbling stream that you want to be able to hear forever! This is a stop when you do the Big Sur Drive from San Simeon. The trailhead is half an hour drive north of the Elephant Seal Vista Point in San Simeon. Download the offline google maps before you go, then input the name of the grove, allowing the GPS feature to guide you even though there is no cell phone coverage. At a bend in the road, there are two dirt pullouts. The trail starts at the first pullout- there is no sign. Tall grasses aren't cleared very well, so you have to keep brushing your legs to make sure you don't pick up any ticks. You come to a cute sign that says "Redwood Grove Los Padres National Forest" and then a strange clearing with three water tanks and what looks like a bird bath. I don't know what this is! Continue on and you will come to the beautiful redwoods and the sweet-sounding stream. This is a very short walk but worth the stop!

Nathaniel Owings worked to conserve the redwoods, and that is why this grove is named after him.
Six minutes drive south, check out Salmon Creek Falls, another very short walk, with a swimming hole and waterfall at the end.
