Oceano Depot is a historic train depot built in 1904, with a cute yellow railway station building and a caboose and vintage railroad speeder (used for track inspection) beside it. You can stop by and look anytime. The museum displays, with some photos of Oceano days of old, are only open two hours a week (Sun 1-3pm). In April and October, there is an excellent model railroad set up inside the Depot during three weekends, from 10am-4pm (in 2026: April 4-5, April 11-12, Oct 3-4). The atmosphere is not very festive at the model railroad days, but it's fun to see the tiny trains zooming around past the miniature buildings. After, visit the stunning Sahara-desert dunes at Pacific Dunes Ranch Campground Trail.
There isn't much else to do in Oceano. The Deltina Coffee is very musty. But just three minutes drive away are the West End cafes in Grover Beach, with Red Bee Coffee and Bee House Thai Cuisine. While in Grover Beach you can also visit the amazing boardwalk through the dunes.
