San Luis Drive neighborhood is full of cute homes, varied gardens, and large trees. There are even two tree houses in the gardens, and a unique house on San Luis Drive that looks like it's straight out of a Disney movie! It's nice to start on hilly Cazadero Street, walk to the end of Alta Street for views of Bishop's Peak, stroll along Conejo Ave, down Andrews Street, along Corralitos Ave, and then to the end of San Luis Drive, where it becomes wooded and you are tucked against the mountains. Here you walk along the creek, listening to birds singing (and some freeway noise). High School Hill trail begins at the dead end.

There is a bridge where you can look down over the creek at the dead end of Andrews Street. If you continue over the Andrews Street bridge and then turn left on Monterey Street, you can walk past Petit Soleil Inn, for a delightful European view of flower boxes in windows. Further south on Monterey Street are coffee shops full of students and young professionals, such as Field Day Coffee, an open-air spot with pretty decor, or Skippers Brew, opened by an Australian. There is also an Asian market called SLO Oriental Market, which is neatly organized and pleasant to shop at.
If you instead go north on Monterey Street, you will come to Apple Farm Restaurant, a slightly more expensive restaurant which is especially charming at Christmastime.
