The stairs at the end of Wadsworth Ave are a nice place to enter Pismo Beach in the spring. Although the area is run down and it can be a bit sketchy around the public restrooms at the top of the stairs, as soon as you descend the stairs things change! Bright yellow and purple ice plant stretches out before you, with flowers galore looking up to the sky! Beautiful ridged cliffs appear just past the flowers.
An abundance of sand is found on this beach, making it perfect for sand volleyball! You find many courts here at the bottom of the stairs. College students from nearby Cal Poly SLO and Cuesta College enjoy a game.
If you walk north along the hard-packed sand of the shore, you come to the white Pismo Caves, a wonderful place to explore especially at low tide. You might even pass a mandala in the sand on the way- sometimes mandala.sea on instagram makes one here on Wednesdays.
If you walk just a few steps south you come to stairs that lead up to the wooden boardwalk of Pismo Pier and Boardwalk. At the base of the pier is a modern, attractive plaza- very pretty! There is also a wonderful playground here for kids, with a whale. The pier is one of the best you will ever visit because you can stand on it looking down at the surfers. They are just a few meters from you, so it's the best viewing of surfing you can find, unless you are a drone! You can also see the light catching the waves from above and from behind- a gorgeous sight. On high surf days, watch the waves crash against the pier pilings.
Kortado Bakery, on Highway 1, is a nice place to walk to from here. They have good croissants with ham and cheese.
Wadsworth Stairs are located at the end of Wadsworth Ave, at 1020 Cypress Street, Pismo Beach. There is parking along the road on all the streets nearby.
