West End is an area near the ocean in Grover Beach that is a nice spot to hang out! The sidewalks are colorful, with an ocean theme, and there are palm trees stretching to the sky. The ocean air is ever present. There are a few good cafes to enjoy. Red Bee Coffee (open daily 7-2) has a nice vibe, with red and blue decor, and good egg bites. Grover Beach Sourdough (8-2, closed Mon and Tues) doesn't have seating but it does have delicious bread and bagels with cream cheese. You can take one to Red Bee Coffee and enjoy it with your coffee. There is a cute gift and flower shop called Shell Beach Floral Design. Other restaurants to try: Bee House Thai, Pono Pacific Kitchen, and Grover Station Grill.
After, drive one minute to the wonderful wooden boardwalk in the dunes called Meadow Creek Trail, which starts at Pismo State Beach, near Fin's Grill. This end of Pismo State Beach is more foggy than near the Pismo Beach Pier, so bring a puffer jacket. If you drive a few minutes to the pier, your kids can enjoy the whale playground at the base of the pier.
I didn't know until recently that six minutes drive away there are huge dunes like a national park or the Sahara Desert! Check them out at Pacific Dunes Ranch Campground Trail.
West End cafes are located on the corner of Grand Avenue and 3rd Street in Grover Beach, or the 200 block of W. Grand Ave.
