Vasona Lake Park and Oak Meadow Park are joined together by a short walkway along Los Gatos Creek. A morning spent at the two is wonderful! At Vasona Lake Park there are geese galore and a large standard play structure. Amazing tall pines surround you. A stream bubbles below a bridge. Follow the stream north and you will come to the lake, with paddle boats in the summer. Or follow signs to the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and you will be on the Los Gatos Creek trail, popular with runners. The creek is gorgeous, with lovely trees that flower at different times of year. Sit by the creek for a moment and listen.
If you walk a little you come to Oak Meadow Park, which is the best part of all! There is a railroad to ride, a carousel and a huge lawn with a pretty gazebo. Little picnic areas are dotted about on hills among pines. There's a decommissioned jet plane for kids to climb into and ride! My toddler spent most of the time here. There is also a pretend fire engine and train and a standard playground with slides. This is a fantastic park filled with happy people and the whole family will have a blast!
Dogs are allowed on leash in the grassy areas and on the Los Gatos Creek Trail, but not by the playground.
At Christmastime, check out the Fantasy of Lights Festival- lines to get in are long, there is traffic around the disorganized event route, but it's a joy to see the lights (you must buy tickets online before coming).
Have a coffee at Los Gatos downtown after playing.
If your child likes trains, half an hour from here, take a train ride at Roaring Camp Railroads through the incredible redwood forest. It's magnificently beautiful!
Carousel rides and train rides each cost $2. Toddlers under 3 are free with paying adult.
Don't follow google directions because they lead you to the closed back entrance of the park.
From Highway 280, take Highway 17 South toward Santa Cruz. Take the Lark Ave exit. Go left at the exit. Turn right on Los Gatos Blvd. Turn right on Blossom Hill Rd. The Vasona Lake Park entrance will be on your right. If you continue further on Blossom Hill Rd you will come to the Oak Meadow Park entrance on your right. Parking is $6. The red tab is on the Oak Meadow Park parking lot.
