Bogatell Beach is less touristy than Barceloneta- there are only a few, rather than many, peddlers selling trinkets. Here, fitness reigns supreme! This beach and its joggers along the boardwalk reminded me of Venice Beach in California. There is even a little graffiti and homeless people, just like at Venice. There are palm trees and even foggy mornings, just like California! Large groups of joggers zip by while others use the workout stations (circuit de salut) that line the boardwalk. People play sand volleyball while kids climb a huge spacenet to the top. Paddlers glide along the water in outrigger canoes. Ladies do yoga on the lawn. There is a walkway atop a stone wall above the beach boardwalk, so there are two places you can walk!
The beach sits at the end of Rambla del Poblenou, a tree-lined street with cafes and attractive buildings. Where the street ends, as you approach the beach, there is a wooded area with homeless people on your right, and a playground built into a slope on your left. Then you come to the fantastic boardwalk with views all the way to W Hotel Barcelona on the right and a jetty or boat ramp on your left. It's fun to walk to the end of the jetty and look down at the clear Mediterranean water.
The only problem with this area is that there are intense sewer smells that take away from your enjoyment.
Bogatell Beach, its boardwalk, and jetty, are at the end of Rambla del Poblenou. You can enjoy the beach and then eat at a cafe on that street.
