The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast in Jensen Beach is a beautiful center with tons for kids to explore! It is located in a gorgeous park, Indian Riverside Park, on the intracoastal waterway. After some time outdoors at the splash pad and on the white, white sand by the water, you can come inside to the museum! Huge windows look out on the trees and water outside, complemented by murals of the same scene. The centerpiece of the museum is a large two-storey ship where kids can cast a line for magnetic fish, balance on a plank, shoot cannons from the upper level and then lift them up with a pulley and bucket, make sailboats (like small skateboards) move when their sails are positioned right in the wind, and put up warning flags. This is super fun and the cannons are the most popular.
In the other section of the museum are rooms with different themes. One is a supermarket with real Publix bags, aprons, and food boxes! Kids love to be adults and here they can work the cash register, or shop for the groceries! There is a vet clinic where kids can check a stuffed animal's vital signs and then put the animal back in its cage! There is even an lit board where they can view xrays of the animals! In another room, kids can ride a bike and watch beside them as a skeleton moves along with them- the pedals for the skeleton are attached to their pedals. Tires can be removed from a race car in a mechanic's room and the car can be filled with oil and gas.
Come early in the morning because it gets more crowded and noisy as the day goes on. We spent about an hour here and then were ready to move on. After playing, you could have lunch at Jensen Beach Boulevard or downtown Stuart. Bring a sweater because it's cold inside.
If you need to warm up, head outside to their lovely garden which has a giant carrot to rock-climb. Kids can climb up the leaves of a giant squash and then slide down inside it. It makes for some great imaginative games, and the view of the intracoastal and the white sand beach can't be beat!
The Children's Museum of the Treasure Coast is a good place to come from June-October, when it's too hot to go out and you can't even go out early or late in the day to beat the heat because that is when the mosquitoes are out (sunrise and sunset).
