Environmental Learning Center is a beautiful nature center on Wabasso island in the intracoastal at Vero Beach. Come in winter as there is lots of exploring to do outside on the grounds and it is too hot and buggy in summer. Kids can ask for the activity kit which comes with a fun net to catch fish from the pond. The fish can be placed in a jar, sketched, and then put back in the pond.

The main room at the center has tons to explore. There's a great exhibit with information on manatees, and a manatee jaw bone. Alligator, bear, deer, and boar skulls are interesting to see. Tanks filled with large silver fish are a joy. And there is a touch tank with horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, and other crawlers. Young volunteers on the weekend are full of enthusiasm for the creatures in the touch tank and will tell you lots of amazing facts.
There is a gift shop near the entrance.
Afterward, check out breezy Wabasso Causeway Park, right by the nature center.
