Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour is a historical harbor in Sydney with a ton of things to do! It's a happening place to walk around in wide open spaces right by the Central Business district. At rush hour, so many business people rush by on the pedestrian-only Pyrmont Bridge- a fun sight to see! The Sydney skyline looks gorgeous from here, and there are plenty of places to grab a beer or meal at a sidewalk cafe and enjoy the view.

On the southern end of Darling Harbour is the Powerhouse Museum, a museum of science and technology. Paddy's Markets is an inexpensive place to buy souvenirs amongst stalls of merchants. The Chinese Garden of Friendship gives you a spot to escape from the city and sit on large rocks by a lake and waterfall, watching birds and giant lizards skitter by. There is an amazing playground north of the Chinese Garden called Darling Quarter Playground, with a space net, sand diggers, swings, slide hill, a supanova, a tangled web, water features such as a water screw, squirts, pump station, and water scoop, a giant ring to swing on in a group, a flying fox, and balance ropes.
On the west side of the harbor, you can shop a modern, indoor mall at Harbourside Shopping Center. The Australian National Maritime Museum is another interesting place to visit just north of the Harbourside Shopping Center.
On the east side of the harbor, Madame Tussaud's is a wax museum located next to the Sydney Aquarium. Best of all is the Sydney Aquarium with its lovely, graceful dugongs (sea cows). Also great, next door to the aquarium, is Wild Life Sydney Zoo, with kangaroos in an attractive red dirt open-air area, snakes, and koalas. The colorful Pyrmont Bridge is a pedestrian-only bridge that carries the monorail across the harbor near the aquarium- it's wonderful to stroll along!
