Dunedin Fine Art Center has a whimsical room for kids based on a Wild Things theme. It is full of high-tech activities for kids and provides imaginative fun for over an hour. The lighting and decor sets the mood and inspires kids. There are two rooms, one with a stage, backdrop, camera, and lights, for kids to stand and perform while watching themselves on the TV screen. And the second room, with many activities. There is a projected image on the floor that kids can interact with. It rotates through several images, one of them a coffee cup, and kids can kick the marshmallow all around. There is a camera, screen, and buttons where kids can make animated videos with the toys provided. There are toys on a table that kids can rearrange to make different feet, heads, and torso for animals. There's a blue light area with markers that glow in the light. A walk-in plexiglass area provides a spot where you one child can draw an outline of the other child who stands inside. There are monster outlines to color on a white board. The possibilities are endless!
After, enjoy a quiche or bowl of soup at the cafe in the foyer. The food is delicious! Here, large skylights and windows provide a lovely space.
Some nights (Friday, Oct 11, 2019, 6-8pm) they have free family nights, and free make and take days (Sat and Sun) where you make something and take it with you. Check the events on their website.
If you need some outdoor time, head over to Weaver Park, with its forest-themed playground and plenty of shade. Or have lunch in Dunedin town.
