Battery Laidley is a mortar battery that was used to defend Fort DeSoto. While the original fort does not remain, you can still see some parts of the mortar battery. The mortars stood behind a tall wall, and you can check them out. There are not many plaques explaining the history of the area, and there are even some old plaques that are just empty. You can also walk up a ramp to the top of the wall and enjoy views of the coastline.

There is a long fishing pier, and a beautiful white sand beach, which you can access via long wooden boardwalks. Stroll along the flat shoreline and enjoy the sparkling water. The sea oats on the white dunes add to the atmosphere.
There is a gift and snack shop in a jetsons-style building.
You can walk all the way to North Beach or in the other direction, walk the long pier. The pier has some shade stations where you can stand and watch the ocean without getting sunburned. Another battery, Battery Bigelow, no longer remains except for a few ruins on the beach just before you get to the pier.
After, have a wonderful lunch at St. Pete Pier.
