Philippe Park is a gorgeous place! Reminding me of parks in my hometown Sydney, it is on a hill over the water. A hill in Florida? Yes, it's an old Indian mound- basically where the American Indians threw their oyster shells into a big pile of trash! It is now a huge hill and provides wonderful vantages point over the water. Nothing is better than looking down on blue water, through the varied shapes of tropical leaves. Philippe Park has huge old trees that add to the joy. It also has walking paths up and around the hill, plus along the very edge of the water. The stone walls and steps look pretty too.
There is a nice playground with a caterpillar climby.
This park is built on Count Odet Philippe's former plantation of 122 acres. He was a French man and the first foreign settler in the area, introducing cigar making and grapefruit to the Tampa area.
This is a good place to stop to break up your drive if you're visiting Clearwater from Orlando.
Philippe Park is located at 2525 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor, FL 34695. There is plenty of free parking.
