Unlike Clearwater Beach to the north with its arcade rooms and hoards of people, Sand Key Beach Park is quiet and unspoiled. It's the place for nature lovers. Here you will find a hundred cabbage palms and then a beach of white sand. Kids adore playing in the sand at the shore- it's the kind of sand that is easy to build with. The water, also, is fun for kids because it's shallow and calm. It doesn't look that clean though. It is somewhat clear but doesn't have the super clean look of the east side beaches in Florida. Check the water quality online before you go, and don't interact with the water if you have cuts or insect bites because of flesh eating bacteria that can be present in the water (this is a bummer). The sunsets here are gorgeous! It's wonderful to sit at the beach and watch as the day comes to an end. Peace, tranquility, and happiness.
Although Sand Key Park is on a different island to Clearwater Beach, you can drive there from Clearwater Beach over a bridge.
After the beach, drive north thirty minutes to the artsy town of Dunedin.
Sand Key Beach Park is located at 1060 Gulf Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33767. There is plenty of parking, and it costs $5 in the meters for the whole day.
