On a bucolic piece of land east of Nashville is the mansion of President Andrew Jackson. You can tour the mansion, gardens, and land. Most of the tour is a self-directed audio tour but in the mansion, tour guides lead you briefly through. Kids don't like guided tours led by people so its wonderful that this tour is self-directed, and best of all, there is a special version for kids! Kids love the character of the parrot, Andrew Jackson's pet, that leads them around the property. What fun! Adults have a choice of what they want to hear. You can listen to the regular audio, kids audio (nice!), or a version from Mrs. Jackson's point of view. There are also extra audio portions not attached to any particular spot on the property that you can listen to as you walk around- these are very interesting. Kids and adults alike learn a lot about slavery and the early 19th century. Also, it's just peaceful to walk around the pretty property listening to audio portions that you choose.
Things you will see are the formal gardens filled to the brim with flowers, the farm land where you can see a small planting of cotton, natural springs and the springhouse, the slave quarters, the graveyard, and the mansion.
For some live music, have dinner at Broadway in downtown Nashville.
