Balmorhea Springs is in the most unlikely spot. In the middle of arid nothingness, there it is! You drive into Balmorhea State Park and there is a large parking lot. Here you can find some lawns shaded by trees and a small river of spring water flowing through. The swimming area is a large (1.75 acre) pool with deep blue magical water. It was built in the 1930s. 15 million gallons of fresh water flow from the spring head each day! And the temperature is around 72 degrees year-round, which is awesome in summer! Scuba divers enjoy the spring, which is fun to watch.
NOTE: On summer weekends, come very very early because the line for the swimming area is super long right from the start! A weekday would be even better.
There are no lifeguards on duty.
