The Pearl District is a hip neighborhood that used to be the site of the industrial Pearl Brewery. It's been beautifully revitalized, taking advantage of the attractive historic architecture that was already there. This pedestrian-friendly area has plenty of landscaped public space to hang out. It is a treat to sit outside (or in the lovely, modern interior) at counter-service Bakery Lorraine. Try one of their delicious breakfast items like the warm oatmeal. The Culinary Institute of America is housed in this neighborhood, thus talented chefs abound! You can see them walking in and out of the bakery.
There is a much groovier vibe here than the touristy San Antonio River Walk. This is where to go if you want to hang with the locals.
Check out the popular farmers market, Sat 9-1 or Sun 10-2.
Afterward, drive over to the Japanese Tea Garden, for a gorgeous stroll in the lush sunken garden.
The Pearl District is located at 306 Pearl Parkway, San Antonio TX 78215.
