Kua Bay, or Manini'owali Beach, is a wonderful swimming beach twenty minutes north of Kona. It is a small cove with white sand and a sandy bottom for swimming. Black lava rock forms the backdrop, looking striking behind the white sand. The water is clear and blue-green, just perfect! There is a row of showers just up a few stairs from the sand. Come early or late in the day because there is no shade at all. Also, the long parking lot is usually full so you must walk quite far without shade. There are restrooms in the parking lot at the roundabout.
The drive to the beach on Kua Bay Access Road is unique, past lots of lava rock and a golden-green hill with kiawe trees. The blue sea looks pretty as you approach.
