Magic Sands Beach Park is called magic sands because the sand disappears- the beach is sometimes rocky sometimes blessed with beautiful white sand. Here a dangerous shorebreak slams the shallow shore, and local teens, innocent tourists, and daredevils take the risk of a swim. It's awe-inspiring to watch the waves crash with such might and then come racing up the beach, taking people's towels with them. Bodysurfers and bodyboarders love this beach. At sunset, it is gorgeous here. There is a restaurant with a balcony over the beach called Magic Sands Grill that looks like a great spot to sit. Parking is across the street from the beach. There is often a shave ice food truck at the parking lot.
Kona town is eight minutes to the north.
Kahalu'u Beach, an easier place to swim, and a fantastic place to snorkel, is four minutes drive south.
The parking lot for the beach is across the street from the beach, at 77-6451 Ali‘i Dr, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.
