Terworm Castle, Heerlen

Terworm Castle is a 14th century castle full of atmosphere! It is surrounded by a real moat! And beside it are formal gardens with a fun elephant statue for kids. To get to the castle, you drive past lovely green pastures. It's wonderful to walk the country roads and around the formal French rococo gardens at the castle. The castle is now an upscale restaurant, cafe/bar, and hotel. Just a short walk away is another hotel owned by the same chain, Van Der Walk, a newly renovated hotel with modern decor, a great place to stay with views of the lush countryside.

Another beautiful spot in the countryside is the Benzenrade neighborhood, a great place to walk around, where you can eat at a coffeehouse with a sunny patio.
If you need to do any shopping, check out Heerlen City Center.
On sunny days, don't miss the magical Baanrakkertje playground. And for an even more exciting time with kids, visit De Valkenier, a small amusement park in nearby Valkenburg.
