San Buenavantura Beach is nice in the spring when there are wildflowers along the bikepath and on the dunes. It's a great place for kids to play imaginative games in the dunes. There is a grassy area in a valley set back from the beach where there are picnic tables, shady trees, and a ton of palm trees. The 1.2-mile bike path is popular and has views of the dunes and sea- you can take it all the way to Ventura Pier, walking for half an hour, but there is no shade and there is some car noise. The beachhouses on San Pedro Street are colorful and hip. This beach is often cold and windy so come with a jacket.
Exit Highway 101 at Seaward Avenue and turn toward the ocean. Follow the signs to San Buenaventura State Beach, which tell you to turn right on Pierpont Blvd. Pierpont Blvd leads directly into the parking lot.
The address is 901 San Pedro St, Ventura, CA 93001.
