Canal du Vasse is a magical spot in Annecy. Here, happy people sit on docks beside rowboats and dip their toes in the crystal clear water. Trees line the canal. Lover's bridge arches over the canal where it meets the lake. What a romantic, metalwork bridge!
Beside the canal is a children's carousel, beautiful and colorful. It's a lot of fun, and the man in charge chases you to scare you.
There are two children's playgrounds, both wooden, on either side of lover's bridge.
Next you find Le Paquier d'Annecy, a huge lawn where people picnic when it's not wet (it is a bit subject to flooding). Here there are magnificent views of the mountains across the lake.
Walk along the waterfront and in Jardins de l'Europe, next to it. Nothing could be more perfect in the world!
The carousel was built in 1906 by Emile Dufaux, and became electric in 1910. It toured several regions, Geneva, Chablais, Haute Savoie, until settling permanently in Annecy in the 1980s. Thanks to Save the Carousel, it was rescued after a fire in the 1980s and gained thousands of hand-sewn glass beads on the velvet wall hangings, and frescoes by the school of fine arts in Annecy.
Canal du Vasse is located alongside Jardins de l'Europe, at Quai Jules Philippe, 74000 Annecy, France.
