Big Sur Drive! A Romantic Mini Vacation!

Ron and I had a little vacation together, the first time alone probably in almost 18 years!! We drove Big Sur Coast Drive, San Simeon to Lucia, and had so much luck with the weather! A patch of sun broke through the fog and followed us all the way up the coast until we got to the landslide that has closed the road. Our last stop was New Camaldoli Hermitage, a place of silent retreats, and the view was stunning! We were so high up (you can see how tiny the highway is in the photo!), with magnificent blue-green water below, and an electric blue line across the horizon! Our first stop was Piedras Blancas Light Station, San Simeon, which had an incredible amount of yellow flowers all around it, as far as the eye could see! We could hear elephant seals making the funniest gurgling sounds, like a bottle pulled underwater. We hiked a redwood gulch, crossed a crystal clear (it must be springfed) stream to a gorgeous beach where pebbles made wonderful sounds in the waves, and hiked to a clear pool surrounded by giant boulders. Since the forecast had been foggy and 58 degrees, we were so happy to be warm and in the sun all day long! Thank you to life for a beautiful day!
