Gem Lake Hike in the Eastern Sierras is an incredible hike that brings pure joy! It is 7 miles roundtrip, with 1000ft elevation, and takes 3 hours. To get to the trailhead, called Little Lakes Valley Trail Parking on google maps, is a five hour drive from Los Angeles. You can stay at a hotel in Bishop.

This hike takes you past wildflowers and green vistas, on a rocky trail. Wear good shoes or your feet will hurt after. You must cross creeks, either getting your feet wet or doing some difficult moves with your ankles. There are mosquitoes in summer, especially in the late afternoon, so plan ahead. The road is often closed in winter, so come from June to October.
Once you reach Gem Lake you are rewarded with a crystal clear lake surrounded by jagged peaks and snow! It is too cold to swim but some brave souls jump in! The color of Gem Lake is just bliss!
