Indian Wells Soda (2.5 hours from LA)

Indian Wells Brewing Company is a fun place to stop on a long drive with your kids. They make beer and soda here at the Indian Wells Spring and you can sometimes watch through the window. If you ask at the counter they will let you sample the different flavors of soda, or you can buy a four pack of four different flavors and ask for plastic cups so you can all taste each one. You can also buy beer or candy.

Outside the brewing company are some fun things such as road signs, a skeleton driving a truck, and a coin-operated carousel, train wagon, and batman car for kids. Inside there are more roadside decorations including large starwars figures, and more skeletons. It really helps to make the car ride go faster if you stop here!
Twenty minutes south, check out Red Rock Canyon, where you can gaze up at the amazing red cliffs, or go for a trail walk.
If you go north 1 1/4 hours, check out the Eastern California Museum, a humble museum that makes everyone in the family happy with its interesting, diverse exhibits.
Another good stop along the road 1 1/2 hours north of here is Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery, where you can see awesome views of the Sierras behind a building that transports you to Austria or Germany.

1 1/2 hours north and another 27 minutes west, go for a hike you will always remember at Big Pine Creek North Fork Trail, a gorgeous place under towering pines and soaring mountain views!
A nice roadside town with a bakery, frozen yogurt place, bookstore, and coffee shop is Bishop, 1 hr 50 minutes north.
