Fleming Beach, or DT Fleming Beach Park, is great when you have had enough sun and want a beach with an abundance of shade from ironwood trees. Because it is on a bay and faces north, it doesn't have that happy, pristine beach vibe. But it's great when you want something quiet, restful and shady. The water isn't as clean, because a stream meets the sea at the east end of the beach. Don't swim after heavy rains. On winter days the waves can get big.
The Kapalua Coastal Trail leads for 1.6 miles from Fleming Beach to Kapalua Bay Beach, in front of hotels on a mostly paved path. I did not walk this path so I explore it in the future for you!
Fleming Beach is along Highway 30 in West Maui. Stop along at Honolua Bay Lookout, 4 minutes north. It is a stunning view! Fifteen minutes south is the resort area of Kaanapali Beach where you can get a meal, or swim in clearer water.
You can park along the road at 5855 Lower Honoapiilani Rd, Lahaina, then climb over the railing to get to the sand. Otherwise, there are two parking lots at the end of the road. One has very hefty fees, and I'm not sure about the other.
