Kihei Kalama Village has two buildings of shaded gift stands reminiscent of the old days before the big glitzy malls. You can browse the touristy tshirts, aloha shirts, and jewelry. The items are similar to what you will find at an ABC Store, but pricey. There is a koi pond with a large tree and tiki torches. There is a coffee shop called Lava Java, a bar called Tiki Lounge. Best of all is the cafe called Paia Fish Market South Side. Their ono is so fresh, and you can sit in the shade looking out on the beach park across the street and the surfing photos on the wall. Don't miss this awesome place to eat!
Across Keala Place is Foodland, where you can buy delicious fresh-baked butter mochi! You have to try it.
Bring your butter mochi to one of the beach parks a little south on the main road, such as Kamaole Beach Park I. For your kids, check out the nice playground at Kalama Park, directly across the main road from Paia Fish Market South Side. You can also take a long stroll on the oceanfront path here, but there is no shade so go in the early morning or evening.
Tiki Thai ToGo is a good food truck with an enchanting garden at night, just to the south (10:30am-9:30pm).
An excellent aquarium 17 minutes north is Maui Ocean Center, a good place to go in the middle of the day when you've had enough sun.
