It's lovely to visit Fearrington (pronounced Farrington) Village! Upon entering, you can check out belted goats bleating, cows roaming a huge field (which is bright yellow in May), and chickens. Kids love this! Next, browse in the bookstore which is very pretty, with lots of perfectly-laid-out nooks and recommendations taped next to books. The kids section is particularly cute, with stuffed animals peering down from the top shelf, and lots of interesting toys to buy. Once you need to sit down, head over to The Belted Goat for a coffee and delicious pastry. There is tons of seating inside, for cold days, plus lovely seating in the garden outside.

Lastly, take a stroll down the wonderful shady streets of the neighborhood, which is a retirement development, taking in the bucolic views of the pond, farm fences, the little newspaper building with a weathervane atop. What a pleasant outing!
On Friday and Saturday evenings in the warm months, you can catch live music and enjoy pizza for dinner at Roost, also an outdoor patio. You order at the window of a little house, and then wait at your table. It's a happening vibe here, with lots of people- come early to get a table. The pizza is delicious- order the Margherita Pizza (the regular size feeds two people, for $13-18).
If your kids need a playground, head across the highway to Briar Chapel where there is some great play equipment at Great Meadow Park.
To hang out on a beach by Jordan Lake, check out Seaforth Beach, a fourteen minute drive southeast.
