NOTE: Closed on Mondays!
Guglhupf Bakery and Cafe is one of those places you just want to visit over and over again because it's so special. The best part is its magical recessed patio with fountain and lots of plants and decorations. Come and enjoy the great North Carolina weather! On other days, sit inside at the window looking out on the beautiful patio. There are cool lantern chandeliers inside and it's very attractive. On top of that, the food is great at Guglhupf! You can buy baked items in the little bakery to the right and then bring them to a table, or order meals inside at the counter. For baked goods, your best bet is the banana chocolate chip muffins. For lunch, amazingly delicious is the bratwurst on bretzel- yum!! They are open at dinnertime too, except on Sunday, and closed all Monday.
Next door is Foster's Market, which you might be tempted to visit on Mondays, but we had yucky food there (breakfast burritos with a weird flavor). They have nice outdoor seating with some traffic noise.
After, take your kids for a play at Old Chapel Hill Road Playground, nine minutes drive to the southwest. Older kids love it even when they've outgrown playgrounds.
Or, go for a walk at Sarah P. Duke Gardens, one of the nicest things to do in the Research Triangle, a six minute drive to the north.
Guglhupf Bakery and Cafe is located at 2706 Durham-Chapel Hill Blvd, Durham, NC 27707. Don't mistake it with the other Guglhupf Bakery in Chapel Hill that is just a small store.
Closed Mondays.
Dinner doesn't start until 5:30pm.
