Mount Dora is a cute town, and much of the action is centered at Grantham Pointe, where the lighthouse walk is found. This is a piece of land jutting out into the lake. There are benches, docks, and a little lighthouse. Boats zoom by and people stop to chat at the water's edge. There is a hammock on each end of the park, and a long walking path. In spring the water flowers in the lake are just gorgeous.
You can extend you walk by heading north past the marina (boat storage), up the hill to the left (this part is not shady so it's best late or early in the day), to Donnelly Street, the hilly main street of town. Here you'll find lots of cute shops and cafes.
You can also walk south to Palm Island Park where you'll find a long boardwalk over the lake. This area is more deserted so bring a friend.
Another option is to cross Tremain Street and head to Gilbert Park. Here you'll find trees galore, and a lovely stream with flowers and tropical plants on its banks. Kids will adore the playground here which is a huge ship. There are also saucer swings, another huge playground, and best of all for big kids, an amazing rope climbey!
The lighthouse walk is located at Grantham Pointe, 357 S. Tremain St, Mount Dora 32757. There is free parking.
