Delray Marketplace is a fun place to walk around. It is new and spiffy. There is a large movie theater, and many cafes with lots of atmosphere. Dos Amigos Tacos is our favorite, with delicious carne asade tacos, and the cutest colorful lights inside plus outdoor seating under umbrellas. It is counter service, which is always handy. There are some waiter-service restaurants such as Burt & Max's, with a happening atmosphere, and Terra Fiamma, which has a romantic outdoor area.
The candy shop It's Sugar has lots of interesting finds such as international chocolates and adorable stuffed animals that kids enjoy. There is a colorful art gallery called Posh Design Studio, and sometimes special events are held here.
It is definitely an older crowd at this mall, especially during the winter season.
Across Atlantic Ave are some other cafes at West Delray Plaza, such as The Poke Company, Sicilian Wood-Fired Pizza, and Carmela Coffee, plus Joseph's Classic Market, a gourmet market. This area is very modern-looking with spiffy white and gray pavers, skinny palms, and sleek buildings. Carmela Coffee Company is a great find! It has a gorgeous interior with a dark wood ceiling, plants, and nice lighting. They have moist banana coconut bread and superfruit (hibiscus) tea that are both delicious. A younger crowd goes here, and there are plenty of high end cars. The staff are sweet and make you feel appreciated.
Check out the amazing birds and alligators at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, a nine minute drive away to the northeast.
Delray Marketplace is located at 14917 Lyons Rd, Delray Beach, FL 33446. It is eight miles inland from the beach, built on former farm fields. There is plenty of free parking behind the stores.
