Lantana Nature Preserve has been created with great care! It has a nice cement walkway that takes you on a short walk through beautiful jungle. The palms and vines are just gorgeous. At the entrance are six parking spaces that are usually empty. There is a huge gazebo here. Walk the path past benches and information plaques. In one spot there is a little butterfly garden with stripey butterflies. Follow the signs to "overlook" and you will find a huge tree with spaghetti-style roots!
This is a loop walk. On the west side you walk along mangroves that line the blue-green intracoastal waterway. It's lovely to see the water!
After, walk along Ocean Ave for 350m to Lantana Beach! This is one of the nicest beaches in South Florida. Sometimes the water is so clear you can see absolutely everything in the water for a long distance! Get some fries at Dune Deck Cafe and bring them down to the beach with you. Or park at the Publix across the street and get beach snacks there.
You can also walk west 280m along Ocean Ave on Hypoluxo Island to the bridge over the intracoastal, which is salmon pink with white lampposts. Stand on the bridge and watch the boats go by.
Check out Lantana town, a quaint row of little houses converted into businesses along Ocean Ave. There is a colorful playground on the water at Lantana Bicentennial Park, plus my favorite, a Finnish bakery called Palm Beach Bakery. Their pastries are always fresh.
Another nice walk is the Hypoluxo Scrub Natural Area, which has a wooden boardwalk and two towers.
Lantana Nature Preserve is located on the barrier island at Lantana, on the main strip that leads to the beach. The address is 440 E Ocean Ave, Lantana, FL 33462. There are a few parking spaces that are usually empty and are free of charge.
