Avenida De La Playa is a cute street of cafes that runs down to La Jolla Shores Beach. Before a day at the beach, you can enjoy a tea and pastry or sandwich at Brick and Bell Cafe on its brick patio. The prices are reasonable at this counter-service cafe. Other cafes are more pricey since this is La Jolla. There are many places to choose from: The Corner Mercantile and Eatery, Shorehouse Kitchen, Mrkt Space (a chic winery with good music playing), and Scoops La Jolla ice cream. There are three businesses where you can rent kayaks to paddle to the amazing sea caves where you can see garibaldi fish in the clear turquoise water (come on a sunny afternoon for this). At the beach there is a large park, Kellogg Park, with a playground that kids love. And there is also a popular boardwalk with benches where you can watch the fun beach scene. Kid love to play in the sand at this beach, finding treasures like kelp, mussel shells, driftwood, and pebbles.
Avenida De La Playa has cafes for three blocks, starting two blocks back from the beach.
