Kellogg Park playground is fun because of its awesome location at La Jolla Shores Beach. Kids love the fun atmosphere, where kayakers walk by with colorful kayaks, and long-boarders stack their boards in bright stacks. People skate past on the boardwalk. There is an interesting dark brown lifeguard stand the protrudes high into the air.
Beside the playground is a huge park with grass to run on, picnic tables, and low gnarled trees to climb, a child's delight!
The playground is on sand plus blue tire rubber. It has baby swings, regular swings, shade canopies, a twisty slide, three monkey bar spinners, a vertical spinner, a circular climby, a rope climby, a pretend lifeguard tower, a small rock-climbing wall with a scene of kelp and fish, plus a beautiful whale sculpture that kids love to lay on.
After, have a meal at Caroline's Seaside Cafe, on the other side of the parking lot. It has a beautiful glassed-in balcony over the sea. Or walk to Avenida De La Playa and have a meal at one of their outdoor patios. Brick and Bell is a bakery with sandwiches and pastries, a nice spot to sit, plus good prices.
If you come in May or June, expect gloomy weather. In the late afternoon you have the most chance of sunshine.
Kellogg Park is located at 8277 Camino Del Oro, La Jolla, CA 92037. There is free parking along Camino Del Oro, or in the big parking lot at La Jolla Shores Beach.
