La Jolla Cove is a world-famous, extremely popular area. It is heavenly, with seals, birds, a perfect cove, daisies hugging the cliff, and a paved walk above the sea. Come at the most quiet time you can find, such as early on a weekday morning, not near a major holiday. Then you can enjoy it without anyone breathing down your neck every few minutes!

This is a long walk, with each turn bringing a new, stunning sight! Start at 1249 Coast Blvd, where you can see a rocky point and sea cave in the distance, and seals and birds galore on the rocks below. In spring there are more flowers than you could ever imagine, hugging the cliffs. Walk west and you will come to La Jolla Cove, the most perfect cove you've ever seen! Here the water is a jade green and the cliffs golden in the sun. I hope you can find a sunny day for this excursion! May and June are the least lucky months for sun. September and October are the best.
Next the walk takes you between a huge lawn called Ellen Browning Scripps Park, and the sea. People sit on the benches or the grass and enjoy the happy vibe. Merchants sell necklaces and trinkets on tables.
Continue along Coast Blvd past gazebos that jut out of the cliff. Each new vista is lovely, with daisies and Norfolk pines over the blue water. You will come all the way to Children's Pool La Jolla, where you can stand at the top and admire more seals. There are often baby seals here.
If you continue along the path, you come to Wedding Bowl, where you can sit on honeycomb cliff formations over the sea. Admire the incredible color of the water and the tall California palms.
In some areas, either the seals or the bird poop smells extremely strong to the point of discomfort. But sometimes there is no smell at all.
Come at sunset to join hundreds of happy people watching the sun go slowly down over the horizon.
The walk is 1.5km each way.
After, eat a counter-service meal at colorful Parakeet Cafe on Coast Blvd with views of the ocean, or a longer waiter-service meal at Duke's La Jolla, a Hawaiian-themed restaurant with views high up over the sea.
