North Park neighborhood is a cute area of humble 1920s craftsman houses that were built for the workers of the World Exposition. They are now filled with mostly young professionals and young families, and worth $1 million each! Walk the grid of streets and check out the houses, sweet gardens, and decorations.
Around University Ave and 30th Street are many bars, coffee shops, and cafes to check out. There is a historic theater that is now a live music venue called Observatory. A smaller cluster of cafes and Thorn Street Brewery (shown above) are around 30th and Upas Street. Some are closed down or a bit gritty-looking, but overall this is a hip area to check out.
There is a farmers market at 2900 North Park Way, on Thursdays, held in spring/summer from 3pm to sunset and fall/winter from 2pm to sunset.
After, check out Balboa Park, a beautiful cultural area and park filled with Spanish architecture, fountains, gardens, and museums.
Check out also South Park, with houses, front gardens, and a gentille main strip with adorable Cafe Madeleine and a bookstore.
The cafes and bars in North Park cluster around University Ave and 30th Street.
Holsem Coffee, 2911 University Ave, San Diego CA. Open daily 7-5.
