Leo J. Ryan Park, in master-planned Foster City, has a beautiful waterfront walkway on a lagoon. You can walk a long way (a mile), and it is romantic at sunset! Many people take advantage of this lovely setting. You feel safe here. Across the water are interesting condos that are in a Mediterannean style, with yellow awnings. There is a modern, attractive bandstand in a sail shape, with summertime live music concerts on Fridays 6-8pm, mid-July to mid-August. A large Balinese-style gazebo juts out into the water.
This park also has pickleball courts, a real favorite. And there is a skate park, and bocce ball courts. You might also see a dragon boat racing team in the lagoon, sailboats, or electric boats.
You can cross the street, Hillsdale Blvd, and check out the Daiso Japanese store or Tpumps Boba Tea.
After, drive 8 minutes over to counter-service Mendocino Farms Cafe for a delicious meal. Their Thai mango chicken salad is so good! And the owner is friendly and kind. There is also Whole Foods Market, Peet's Coffee, and other cafes, in this upscale area called Park Place.
For another place with lovely atmosphere in the evening, check out Courthouse Square in Redwood City.
Leo J. Ryan Park is located at 650 Shell Blvd, Foster City, CA 94404. There is parking in two lots. Signs tell you the parking is reserved for park patrons, and it almost makes you think the parking lot is closed, but it is reserved for you!
