Scotts Valley is a beautiful town deep in the woods, ten minutes drive inland from Santa Cruz. It's lovely to stay the night here and then hike the Ox Trail to Garden of Eden in the morning. If you fly into San Jose, you can stay here instead of staying in the city. It's beautiful to see the fog settled below the silhouette of redwood and pine trees. Before your hike, get an egg and bacon bagel at House of Bagels, a friendly spot popular with locals. In late September and early October, enjoy the colors of the autumn leaves around town.
A nice place to have lunch is Felton town, which has a block full of charming cafes and a cute bakery called The Grove Bakery and Cafe.
House of Bagels, 216 Mt Hermon Rd # D, Scotts Valley, CA 95066. There is plenty of parking in the shopping center parking lot.
