Avila Ranch is a neighborhood near the 101 freeway that leads out of San Luis Obispo to the beach. It is in San Luis Obispo (not Avila Beach) and near agriculture fields, with nice views of mountains all around. Along the creek is a short bike path lined with flowers that kids can tricycle along, and a huge playground. The playground has a twisty tunnel slide, tall regular slide, and monkey bars. There are also light blue basketball courts. The bike path runs past the playground and along the creek, for a very short distance, and then ends at another playground with a picnic pavilion.

As you drive out, check out the Octagon Barn, a historical building used as a wedding venue.
For a place to eat nearby, check out SLO Public Market, a modern and attractive area with lots of public space where kids can run around.
