Black Hill, in Morro Bay, offers a stunning view on a clear day. You drive up through gorgeous Morro Bay Golf Course to a lookout with a small parking lot. From here you can see Morro Rock in absolute perfection, with the estuary, the little town, the dunes, and to the left, the silvery salt marsh. Eucalyptus trees and swaths of bright green golf course are directly below you.
If you want some exercise, you can add in the hike. It is a one kilometer out-and-back very steep hike, under lovely cypress trees. The narrow, dirt path zig zags up the hill. After the first few steps of the hike, you go left at the fork to take this uphill hike. The right fork takes you downhill, to connections with many other hiking trails such as the Carmel Loop Trail.
Another beautiful walk to do, that is just a five minute drive away is Bayshore Bluffs Park Walk.
Black Hill Lookout is located at the very end of Upper State Park Rd where you will find a small parking lot and a wooden railing. From the parking lot for the golf course, drive toward Morro Bay town and then turn right at the triangle. There is a sign that says "Road Closed" but then in small letters "Sunset to 6am," so the road is not actually closed!
