Cloisters Beach is the part of Morro Strand State Beach that is north of where the creek meets the sea. The south part is called  Morro Rock Beach. Cloisters Beach is lovely, wide and open! It is more secluded than the southern part of the beach, and you can take a much longer walk along the shore too. You can sit on it and get lost in your thoughts without anyone walking near you, since it is so gigantic! An abundantly sandy path leads through the dunes to the beach. It is quite strenuous to walk through the deep sand. The dunes are covered in clusters of yellow and purple flowers. On the beach, you can find hundreds of sand dollars on lucky days, some sweet and small, fitting in the palm of your hand. The beach can be windy so bring a jacket. On late summer and fall mornings, you can enjoy windstill, sunny weather, and it is bliss. The rest of the year it will be foggy in the morning. There are clean restrooms at the parking lot on Azure Street.

Azure Street is where the Cloisters Beach Path begins. It is sheltered from the cold sea air by the dunes, so it makes a great alternative when it is just too windy on Cloisters Beach. In spring there are flowers galore on this lovely path! The path goes through Cloisters Community Park where there is a playground.
The dunes at Cloisters Beach are fenced off. So the only way to enter and exit the beach is at three openings: 109 Azure Street, 110 Atascadero Rd, and 1700 Embarcadero. You can get almost stuck on the beach because you can't see where you entered! The dunes are just a blur. This is quite scary! I walked for a long time trying to find how to get back to my car!
